Thursday 24th June 2010, Auteuil. (www.jourdegalop.com) Thomas Trapenard had previously announced on the occasion of the last win of Soleil de Sivola (Discover d’Auteuil), that his charge was one of the best 4 year old jumpers and he wasn’t proven wrong when the latter won the €150,000 Prix La Périchole Chase (Gr3-4yos). “I didn’t want to run today because of the heat”, commented the winning trainer. “But his owner insisted and he was right.” Tough as nails, Soleil de Sivola held off all attacks in the final stages especially that of Saccageur (Poliglote), who put up a strong performance in the straight. The anticipated battle between Olé Companero (Sholokhov) and Surfing (Califet) never took place. Olé Companero had to be content with third place, while Surfing could only manage a distant fifth place.
Bred by Thomas and Gilles Trapenard, Soleil de Sivola is the first product out of Neva de Sivola (Blushing Flame), a mare who showed some talent over jumps most notabley when winning the Prix du Bois Rouaud at Auteuil. Her second offspring, Sivola Gambler, is a 3 year old full brother to Soleil who finished 2nd in the Prix des Cévennes.
Sagan – Tanais du Chenet is one to watch
Tanaïs du Chenet (Poliglote) was successful in the €115,000 Prix Sagan Hurdle (L-4yos-3,500m) and confirmed that she is the best 3 year old filly of this year. A full sister of the best 4 year old chaser, Saint du Chenet, Tanaïs du Chenet went one better than her brother on Thursday, who didn’t have his first start over jumps intil the Autumn of his 3 year old career and without winning. Tanaïs du Chenet looks to still have some room for improvement, which was confirmed by her jockey, Régis Schmidlin: “She will be a great filly in the autumn.” On only her second start, Marcel Rolland’s charge easily beat the best her generation has to offer. “My only worry was her lack of experience” explained her trainer. “He didn’t go well early on and she was a bit keen when there was no pace. But she then relaxed and won well.” Magalen Bryant’s representative tracked the leaders before making her move down the outside to beat Las Ventas (Poliglote) by 2 lengths with Katkovana (Westerner) a further neck behind in third.
It was another triumph for the French sire Poliglote (Sadler's Wells), who stand at the haras d'Etreham for €6,000 and is ranked 1st amongst the jumpers' sires in France with almost €1,3m in prizemoney so far this term, that is about half of the prizemoney won by the leading sire Presenting offspring in 2009-2010.
Bred by Marie-Laure Besnouin, Tanaïs du Chenet is a daughter of a top class jump broodmare in Tchela (Le Nain Jaune), who ran 28 times and finished placed twice in Group races over fences.
Tchela has produced a total of 16 offspring: including Ma Royale, 2nd in the Grand Steeple and the Prix Alain du Breil (Gr1) and winner of the Prix Ingré (Gr3); Saint du Chenet, winner of the Prix Fleuret (Gr3) and Jean Stern (Gr2) ; Galant Moss (Tip Moss), 2nd in the Prix Renaud du Vivier (Gr1) and 3rd in the Grande Course de Haies d’Auteuil (Gr1). She also has a 2 year, Union du Chenet (Kahyasi), and a yearling, Viva Tchela (Astarabad).
Rigoletto – Numero Special benefits from eventful race
This year’s edition of the €115,000 Prix Rigoletto Chase(L-5yos+ -4,400) stood out for the multiple fallers at the rail ditch and fence with five horses falling in total. In the end only 5 of the 12 runners finished the race with Dom Mirande (Turgeon) taking second place 8 lengths behind the winner with Rushwell (Shaanmer) a further four lengths behind in third place.
course. After the race Sébastien Monteil, who brought the horse to Auteuil, said; “The horse had a very good chance before the race. His owner couldn’t be here today as he broke down on the way! It is his first winner, I just spoke to him on the phone and he is delighted.”
Gerald de Rochefort – Expect even more from Rosa d’Anjou
“Rosa d’Anjou (Rochesson) improves with each run and I think that her last run provided a valuable lesson”, declared winning jockey Julien Morel. Laurent Viel’s charge showed an impressive turn of foot to dominate her rivals in the finish of the €85,000 Prix Gerald de Rochefort Hurdle (4yos-3,900m). “She has a lot of speed”, added her partner, “She loves soft ground so will no doubt be better at the end of the year.” Two lengths behind the winner, Marito (Alkalde) took second place a short neck in front of Kinglaska (Kingsalsa).
Bred by A. Vandenhove, G. Vaillant and M. Aschero, Rosa d’Anjou is the first product of Rosane (Sheyrann), twice a winner in the provinces for Serge Foucher. Her second product, Roc d’Anjou
