“She has a lot of class!” Guy Cherel didn’t need many words in order to describe Sortie de Secours (AQ-Trempolino) after her success in the €85,000 Prix Christian de Trédern (L- 4&5yos-3,600m). The representative of Haras de Saint Voir was clearly head and shoulders above the other 11 mares in the race. “She made a small mistake at the last hurdle and took some time to get things back on track afterwards”, explained her trainer. “She is not a very big mare but she gives her all.” In six starts, Sortie de Secours has won three times, finished second twice and unseated her jockey on her other start.
Sat on the heels of the leaders, Sortie de Secours accelerated on the far side before taking the lead coming off the last bend and was never challenged thereafter despite the strong finish of N’Oublie Jamais (Loup Solitaire). These two mares finished 8 lengths ahead of their nearest rival, . On the 30th of April, Sortie de Secours and N’Oublie Jamais met for the first time in the Prix d’Arles. On that occasion Sortie de Secours beat Jean-Paul Gallorini’s charge by six lengths. However on Friday the distance between the two was reduced to only one and a half lengths.
Bred by her owners, the Haras de Saint Voir, Sortie de Secours is the sixth of seven of her unraced dam, Briffault (Olmeto), offspring to have appeared on a racecourse. Five of these have already won, including Hard Rock (Video Rock), who won the Prix Edmond Barrachin (Gr3) when trained by Guy Cherel.
Perray – Success for Quatre Bleue

Francois-Marie Cottin’s charge Quatre Bleue (SF-Cyborg) was successful in the €50,000 Prix du Perray Chase (5yo+ Mares-3,700m) in the hands of Phillip Carberry. Mine Lointaine (Antarctique) was a close second a neck behind the winner with Chausey (Cadoudal) a further three lengths behind in third place.
This was the winner’s first run back since January of this year when she was up at Cagnes-sur-Mer, as was also the case on her last run of 2009. It was the third success of her career and the first over fences as all her other wins have been over hurdles.
Bred by her trainer, Quatre Bleue is out of Cate Bleue (SF-Katowice), a six time winner on the flat in France before turning her hand successfully to jumping in Italy. She was also the dam of the talented but ill fated Musica Bella (SF-Bateau Rouge), a Listed winner and Group 2 and Group 1 placed mare for Francois Cottin.
Rocking Chair – Scluzo de l’Aube one to watch for the future
Jean-Luc Pelletan’s charge Scluzo de l’Aube (Loxias) made a big impression on his debut in the €46,000 Prix Rocking Chair Hurdle (3yo Males-3,000m). “He is a serious horse with a big engine and natural jumping ability”, confided his trainer. On arriving back into the ring after his success, Scluzo de l’Aube attracted lots of attention from numerous bloodstock agents indicating that we may not be seeing him running in his trainer’s colours for much longer, or even that he will stay in France. An impressive model, Scluzo de l’Aube made up ground on the last bend before taking the lead between the last two fences and was never challenge from then on. In his wake, it was Singapore Sky (Sagacity) who took second place with an impressive turn of foot in the final stages. Fourth in the Prix Wild Monarch, Talent d’Estruval (Nononito) confirmed that performance by taking third place in this race. Half brother to multiple Group 1 winner Big Buck’s (Cadoudal), Buck’s Business (Turgeon) had his first start in this race and would almost certainly have taken third place if it wasn’t for a mistake at the last hurdle meaning he eventually finished sixth.
Bred by Mathieu Grimaud, Scluzo de l’Aube is the fifth produce out of Tintignac Debiercy (Dom Pasquini) and her third winner. Tintignac Debriecy ran twice over jumps at Pau, without success.
Royan - Pearl of Charm provides important first
A new name to appear on the trainers list is that of Michel Macé, an ex-jockey who has taken out a trainer’s licence. He currently has 10 horses in training, all of which belong to Écurie Victoria Dreams. He achieved his first winner with Pearl of Charm (Poliglote), a filly previously trained by Guy Cherel, in the €44,000 Prix de Royan Hurdle (4yos-3,500m). The latter was represented in this race by Sourire aux Lèvres (Robin des Champs), who battle with his ex stable companion the whole length of the straight. “He is starting to understand his job”, confided Guy Cherel. “He is a horse with a lot of gas and he ran well in the straight. He was beaten by a filly who has more class on the flat. But it is a good sign for the future.” Marcel Rolland’s two representatives, Sir Dream (Dream Well) and Le Grand Chêne (Turgeon) took third and fourth place respectively.
Bred by Jean-Philippe Dubois, Pearl of Charm is out of Severina (Darshaan) and has already shown enough quality on the flat to win on the fibresand of Deauville. She is a sister of the classy Pearl Away (Gold Away), a mare trained by Yves de Nicolay and who made a winning first start in the Prix de Croissy at Longchamp, before finishing second in the Prix Cléopâtre and the Royaumont (both Group 3s).
