Monday 7th June 2010, Auteuil. (www.jourdegalop.com) All eyes were on Katenko (Laveron) in the €85,000 Prix Miror Hurdle (L-4yos-3,600m), but in the end it was Montpellier (Della Francesca) who achieved his second success here at Auteuil. “He is a very good horse and Jo has done a good job with him,” confided the winning trainer. The horses who played the waiting game had the upper hand in this Listed as the first three home were all held up at the back of the field before making their moves on the last bend. Montpellier won by three quarters of a length after a battle with Marito (Alkalde), who took second place. Al Bucq (Goldneyev) finished a further length and a half back in third. Katenko finished a long way back in seventh place and will most certainly be better over fences in the autumn.
Bred by the Artu family, Montpellier (Della Francesca) is the first winner out of his dam, What Cheeky (Cadoudal).
Iena – Cutting Edge impresses
With one gear change, Cutting Edge (Kapgarde) demolished all of his rivals in the €85,000 Prix d’Iéna Hurdle (L-3yo Fillies-3,500m) and crossed the finishing line eight lengths ahead ahead of Las Ventas (Poliglote). “She is starting to understand and the cheekpieces have helped”, announced Yannick Fouin. “The next step for her will be the Prix Sagan (L).” Cutting Edge benefited from the fall of the favourite, Salsa Melody (Kingsalsa), at the last hurdle when in the lead. Placed fourth in the Prix Wild Monarch (L), Oklahoma Seven (Saint des Saints) finished a good fourth just three lengths behind Las Ventas.
Bred by Mrs F. Liboire along with Nicolas and Ian Kellit, Cutting Edge is the second product of Cousette (Polish Precedent) and the first to win. Cousette never ran but is a daughter of Coolraoul (Suave Dancer), dam of three winners.
Ginetta – Winner from family of Azertyuiop

The one to watch in the €50,000 Prix Ginetta II Chase (AQPS-4yos-3,500m) was Saccageur (Poliglote), a son of Ellapampa (Pampabird), who is a sister of champions Bipbap (Dom Pasquini) et Azertyuiop (Baby Turk). Saccageur was the only one of the fourteen runners to be making his chasing debut and having on his first run of the season over jumps. These two factors could have led to an unhappy first time over chase fences but although the start of the race didn’t exactly go to plan, Saccageur made up ground on the far side to be among the leading group on turning into the straight. “I didn’t think that it was possible for him to win after all the effort he had put in during the race”, confided the winning breeder Pierre de Maleissye Melun. “I am delighted with his performance, David Cottin rode him perfectly.” In the end Saccageur passed the post two and a half lengths ahead of nearest rival Slow Game (Al Namix), who was once again deprived of his first chasing win by a "Macaire" representative. Sweet Sugar (Loup Solitaire) took third place a further five lengths back after having been very wound up in the parade ring and keen during the race.
As mentioned above, Saccageur was bred in Sarthe, by Pierre de Maleissye Melun. He is the best product of his dam, Ellapampa (Pampabird), who won 6 of her 14 starts and never finished out of the money. Ellapampa also has a yearling filly by Saint des Saints and should be covered by Poliglote.
Jean de la Rochefoucauld – Another Sivola winner
“He is one of the best 4 year olds at Auteuil”, declared Thomas Trapenard after the success of Soleil de Sivola (Discover d’Auteuil) in the €70,000 Prix Jean de La Rochefoucauld Chase (4yos-4,100m), a race which has recently been won by such decent horses as Northwest du Lys (Medaaly) and the Prix du Président de la République (Gr3) winner Rescato de l’Oust (Maresca Sorrento). Very unlucky since his debut Soleil de Sivola finally avoided all problems to bravely beat Star Conti (Smadoun) by only a head with Pistolet Rouge (Polish Summer) a further head back in third. “He is a horse that we have always thought a lot of”, continued the winning trainer. “He has been unlucky up until but no mistake; he is a very good horse.”
Bred by Thomas and Gilles Trapenard, Soleil de Sivola is the first foal of Neva de Sivola (Blushing Flame), a quality jump mare who won the Prix du Bois Rouaud at Auteuil. Éva de Chalamont (Iron Duke), the second dam of Soleil de Sivola, is the dam of Rêve de Sivola
(Assessor), double Gr1 winner of the Champion Novice Hurdle at Punchestown and the Challow
Novices’ Hurdle at Newbury.
Brissac – AQPS’s to the fore

The €50,000 Prix Brissac Chase (5yos-4.100m), saw Guillaume Macaire’s Rubis d'Albain (SF-Ragmar) pull off a runaway victory by an impressive ten lengths from fellow AQPS Recital Valtat (SF-Dom Alco). Unplaced on his four career starts, all over hurdles, and a faller on his last run, ha has obviously found his forte in chasing making this a very pleasing debut.
Rubis d’Albain’s dam, Celia de Toury (Royal Charter) was a three time winner over jumps from twenty one career starts. She has produced two other winners, and her only other produce to see the track is the four year old Selia d’Albain (Shaanmer) who is in training with Gerard Levy.
