Sunday 18th April 2010, Auteuil. (www.jourdegalop.com) Jehan Bertran de Balanda was over the moon after the impressive success of his charge Mail de Bièvre(Cadoudal) in the Prix Murat Chase (Gr2-5yo+ -4,400m) just three weeks after winning the Troytown (Gr3) by fifteen lengths. “Princesse d’Anjou led the race but Christophe (Pieux, his jockey) knows him well and rode a great race,” announced the winning trainer. “He has toughened up and jumped very well today, he is improving over fences.”
Mail de Bièvre was accompanied at the head of affairs the dual Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris (Gr1) winner Princesse d’Anjou (Nononito), however the winner soon took the lead leaving the “Princesse” in his wake. Laid back during the race he jumped from fence to fence with ease before going on to win by 8 lengths from Odeillo du Mathan (Balleroy) with Objectif Spécial (Ungaro) a further lengths and a half back in third place. Winning jockey Christophe Pieux announced
“he was really impressive as I never asked him for an effort.”

Magnificent in the parade ring beforehand, Princesse d’Anjou finished in fourth place after seeming to burn herself out in her attempt to keep up with the winner early on the race. François-Marie Cottin declared: “She ran well. She was ready and I am satisfied with her performance. That should do ahead of the "Grand Steeple", I’m not worried.” Or Noir de Somoza (Discover d’Auteuil) found nothing in the finish and could only manage fifth place.
On the subject of the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris, Jehan Bertran de Balanda added: “I’m still not sure as to whether he will run in the "Grand Steeple" as he is only a 5 year old, but we will decide later on.” Previous 5 year olds who were successful in this famous race include Princesse d’Anjou, First Gold (Shafoun) and Katko. If Mail de Bièvre does run, Christophe Pieux will have a difficult choice to make as his regular mount; last year’s winner Remember Rose (Insatiable) is also entered.
Bred by Jacques Bérès, Mail de Bièvre is a brother of Buttes Chaumont (Vertical Speed), winner of eight races.
