Scoop_043783_012Tuesday 6th April 2010, Enghien. (www.jourdegalop.com) Pibrac (Spadoun) caused a surprise by winning the €95,000 Prix Journaliste Chase (L – 5yo+ - 4,500m). The 6 year old of François-Marie Cottin’s is only now achieving his full potential as he matures. As comfortable over hurdles as he is over fences, he won the Grande Course de Haies (L), at Cagnes-sur-Mer this winter. “I’m very happy with this win”, confided François-Marie Cottin. “He is not an easy horse, very keen and needs to be set right before every fence, which his jockey did perfectly today. We will take one race at a time but I’m not certain that he would handle Auteuil.” Pibrac was at the back of the field for most of the race, at the turn into the straight his jockey, Philip Carberry, was the only one who had yet to make his move. Despite almost unseating his rider at the last fence, the pair went on to an easy success. Pibrac was helped by the fact that he was carrying bottom weight, a full 7 kilos less than the favourite Alarm Call (Solar One).

The battle that everyone was looking forward to between Ramsès Bleu (Pistolet Bleu) and Alarm Call failed to take place. The pair finished an honourable second and third respectively.

Bred at the Domaine de Menneval, Pibrac is a half brother of Prise de Risque (Take Risks), a winner on the flat and now running over jumps.

Dinard – President Jose shows who’s boss

Président José (Slickly) was the one to watch in the €50,000 Prix de Dinard Chase (4yos-3,500m) and he confirmed this by winning on what was his second start over fences. On soft ground, he was content to wait patiently in a race led by Celtill (Celtic Swing) and Super Maman (Robin des Champs), the only runner having her first start over fences. After making up ground on the last bend Président José got the best of Celtill on the flat. “He was one of the best 3 year olds over hurdles”, announced Cyrille Gombeau, “but found it difficult in Group company.

He is very good over fences. I thought that he would win easier than that but he leased up once he got his head in front. I don’t think that Auteuil will be a problem for him.”

Super Maman ran very on her first attempt at chasing. The representative of Guy Cherel is an aunt of Quel Esprit (Saint des Saints), a Group 3 winner for Willie Mullins.

Bred by his owner, Claude Cohen, Président José is a son of Old Beino (Highest Honor), twice Listed placed over 2,400 metres for Élie Lellouche. She is also the dam of Oracle (Poliglote), who has won numerous races at Auteuil for Claude Cohen, including the Prix Alain et Gilles de Goulaine (L).

Cadettes – Emotional win for connections of Rose Rosse

Vicenzo Esposito, who died a year ago exactly, seemed to be looking down on his representative

Rose Rosse (Corri Piano) when she won her first race in the €46,000 Prix des Cadettes Hurdle (3yo Fillies-3,200m). After this moving victory, winning jockey Cyrille Gombeau declared; “I am delighted to win in these colours. She is a very good filly. I must thank Mr. Collet, he told me that I would win two races for him today and he was right!

Rose Rosse disposed of her rivals on the flat and was never threatened by the challenge of Tonelle d’Estruval(Fragrant Mix), who took second place in front of Gooseley Chope

(Indian Rocket) who once again ran a good race.

Bred by her owner, Vincenzo Espozito and Mme C. Wingtans, Rose Rosse is out of Sweet Valrose(Cadoudal). She is one of the first crop of her young sire Corri Piano and is his first winner from two runners.
