Sunday 21st March 2010, Auteuil. Guillaume Macaire was overjoyed when Bel la Vie (Lavirco) managed to put his fall in the Prix Cambacérès behind him to win the €130,000 Prix Jacques d'Indy Hurdle (Gr3-4yos-3,600m). “I am still convinced that he would have won the Prix Cambacérès, if he hadn’t fallen. We are over the moon today”, commented Xavier Papot, owner of Bel la Vie and of the winner of the “Cambacérès”, Prince

Oui Oui (Poliglote).

Also present in Sunday’s race, Prince Oui Oui was held up towards the back of the field and seemed quite keen. He played no part in the finish which was fought out between Kauto Stone (With the Flow) who finished second and Nikoline (Martaline) back in third. “I told his jockey not to be too hard on him”, declared Philippe Peltier. “Prince Oui Oui was quite keen and very fresh. The important thing is that the horse came back okay.”

Aftar his fall at Auteuil, Bel la Vie ran again, but at Enghien in the Prix Général de Saint Didier (Gr3). He ran correctly that day but only managed to take fourth place. On this topic Guillaume Macaire said: “He didn’t enjoy Enghien, it helped him get his confidence back but it is nothing like Auteuil. It would be like comparing ping pong with tennis!”

Sat in behind the leaders, Bel la Vie began to make his move early in the straight. After jumping the last hurdle he went in search of the leader Kauto Stone. “He ran well for his first run back after a break, especially since the winner is very good,” announced Jehan Bertran de Balanda, trainer of Kauto Star’s younger brother. “I think that a longer trip would suit him in the future because he just keeps galloping without changing gear.”

This race also featured a talented group of females, of which Nikoline, winner of the Prix

Bournosienne (Gr3), proved to be the best when taking third place after a battle with Kauto Stone. Yannick Fouin, her trainer, explained: “She was ridden with winning in mind and it worked in her favour. She ran very well. Running against males after her win in the Prix

Bournosienne will open doors for her.”

Bred by the Gabeurs, who also bred Master Minded and Long Run, Bel la Vie is out of Bibelle (Le Balafré). Benoît Gabeur explained in more detail the story behind this mare.Bibelle ran in a claimer at Lisieux where Guy Petit bought her for €7,000. The next day when I saw in the paper that he had claimed her, I rang him and asked could I buy her off him. Guy

Petit hadn’t bought her for a particular client so he sold her on to me. I had never seen her run but I was interested by her breeding potential.” Bibelle is out of Miss Tracy (Misti), who won notably the Prix Maurice Gillois (Gr1). “She is currently in foal to Network after having produced two foals by Lavirco et deux fillies by Kapgarde”, added Benoît Gabeur.
