Sunday 21st February 2010, Pau. (www.leblogdeparisturf.com) The €65,000 Prix Antoine de Palaminy Chase (L-4yos-3,900m) was extremely eventful with both Net Lovely (Network) and Califète Royale (Califet) falling during the race. The hot favourite Kriss William (Califet) also made a big mistake at one point and almost succeeded in unseating his jockey Bertrand Thélier. At the head of affairs Kriss William controlled the race with Net Lovely close on his heels. Unfortunately the latter fell at the open ditch on the final bend (“I was cantering at the time and probably would have won”, said jockey Teddy Soulat), followed by Califète Royale. Kriss William himself made his massive error on landing after the fence. “He is too sure of himself and sometimes loses concentration,” said trainer Guy Cherel. “Tiredness had nothing to do with it as he recovered well from the error and kicked on. I am delighted for his breeder, Christophe Tanguy. The horse will now run in the Prix du Duc d'Anjou à Auteuil.”King du Lémo (Indian River) profited from these fallers and finished second, 10 lengths behind the winner, ahead of Simple Désir (Ballingarry) and Balarose (Le Balafré). As mentioned by Guy Cherel, Kriss William was bred by Christophe Tanguy. He is to date the best produce of his dam, Pretty William (Bojador). She is however a half sister of a very good jumper in the early 90’s, For William's Sake (Down the River).
Charles du Breil – Royal Bonnet unbeaten this winter
Royal Bonnet (Bonnet Rouge) has already two wins to his name at Pau this winter and on Sunday he added a third with his victory in the €40,000 Prix Charles du Breil Hurdle (5yo+ -3,800m). “He has an enormous engine, but it’s well hidden,” announced winning trainer Philippe Boisgontier. “He actually isn’t very big at all and is a very anxious horse, difficult to train. But on the track he is a champion. His next race will be at Auteuil.” It must be noted that this son of Bonnet Rouge is only 5 years of age.”
Back in second, Nouveau Roi (Poliglote) ran well once again. Jockey David Cottin said: “He was beaten by a better horse.” Rosignol Collonges (AQPS - Brier Creek), finished a good third for his return to the track. Royal Bonnet was bred by Ecurie Biraben. His dam, Spleen (Sillery), won over hurdles and fences before going to stud where she produced Don Preuil (Saint Preuil), winner of the Camille Duboscq (L.), and Zaliapour (Daliapour), useful flat horse now pursuing a jumping career.
Francois de Poncins – Saying Again earns more praise

After the success of Saying Again (AQPS - Califet) on January 24 in the Prix Al Capone, Guy Cherel did not hide how highly he estimated his AQPS representative. This time, up against “purebreds” in the €32,000 Prix François de Poncins Hurdle (4yos-3,800m) he told us once again; “this is an extraordinary horse”. Straight to the front of the pack he set a decent pace and responded to the demands of jockey Cyrille Gombeau once the last hurdle was out of the way. “He is a phenomenon”, announced Guy Cherel, who doesn’t mince his words when it comes to his protégé. “Over fences he will be even better again. He is a horse that needs to be allowed to gallop on in front.” Even if all eyes were on the winner, the strong performances of Sanjaka de Thaix(AQPS - Dom Alco), eventual second, and especially Nadiya de la Vega(Lost World), third placed and the only female in the race, should not go unnoticed. Bred by the Cherel brothers, Saying Again is a son of Débandade (AQPS - Le Pontet), winner of the Prix André Boingnières at Auteuil. She has already bred Ladalko (AQPS - Kadalko), Gr2 winner over hurdles across the Channel, Oumeyade (AQPS - Smadoun), Gr2 placed over English fences, and Rochdale (AQPS - Vidéo Rock), winner of a “quinté” over hurdles at Auteuil. She also has a 2 year old by Prince Kirk.
