Wednesday 27th 2010, Pau. (www.leblogdeparisturf.com) The €32,000 Prix Renaud de Tauzia Chase (4yos-3,700m) was won by Crack Champbenoît (Myrakalu) for Guy Cherel and jockey Julien Desmonts. The trainer almost achieved a 1-2 in this race with Special Polish (Polish Summer), but they hadn’t counted on the courage of King du Lémo (Indian River), who fought back to keep second place. Guy Cherel was not however overjoyed with this performance: “I was less pleased than the last day because he jumped badly today. He is going through a growth spurt which affects his jumping. I’m not too worried because he will make a good horse in the future. We will leave him alone for the moment. It has to be noted that he is only rising 4.” Ecstasy quickly turned to agony when the winner came back lame after the race; the verdict was a fracture of the cannon bone.
Crack Champbenoît was bred by Paul Gatille. His dam, Cinca (Bluebird), was unraced. The third dam of Crack Champbenoît, Miss Mat (Matahawk) has bred some good winners, such as Milford Track (Fairy King), multiple Listed winner, and Matarun (Commanche Run), winner of the Exbury (Gr3).

Urt - Quocotiep comes into his own

“I think I have had my quota of fallers”, explained Emmanuel Clayeux, referring to Pearl Fine, who fell at the last hurdle in the previous race. “Thanks to Quocotiep (AQPS - Network), I broke the curse.”
Quamino d'Airy (AQPS- Cachet Noir) led the race until Quocotiep joined him to jump the last hurdle together, before going on to show his superiority on the flat in the €32,000 Prix d'Urt Chase (AQPS-5yo+ - 4,600m). Opening his record in this race after a series of good runs, Quocotiep is well thought of by his trainer:

Quamino d'Airy put up a strong performance in second place. Jacques Ortet was very satisfied with his runner: "He was beaten by a good horse. He is increasing in strength and will probably run in another AQPS chase next."
Quocotiep’s dam, Unetiepy (Marasali) was unraced but she has already produced the classy Pomme Tiepy (Apple Tree), Gr2 winner and Gr1 placed in England, as well as Dostiep (Laostic), 2nd in the Président de la République (Gr3).

Baleix - One-two for Christian Baillet

Doubly represented in the €14,000 Prix de Baleix (3yo Males-1,500m Fibresand), Christian Baillet achieved the perfect score when his two runners, Carmen's Boy (One Cool Cat) and Thyan (Indian Rocket), finished in first and second place respectively. Carmen's Boy was bred by Haras du Thenney. He was purchased by Héloïse Agelou for €20,000 at the Arqana August Sale in 2008 (click here for catalogue page). His second dam, Amaryllis (Sadler's Wells), produced the Gr1 placed Day Or Night (Daylami).

Anglet - La Triste Condesa on the rise

La Triste Condesa (Ocean of Wisdom) has progressed immensely since her debut. She confirmed this in winning the €14,000 Prix d'Anglet (3yo Fillies-1,500m Fibresand), despite a strong resistance from Vent de Folie (Ski Chief). La Triste Condesa is a granddaughter of the good Mariage Secret (Romildo), Listed winner. She is also a sister of the useful handicapper Bacarrita (Marathon), who is also trained by Luis Urbano-Grajales.

"He is a bit backwards, we have given him the time he needed to mature. Along with his owner, we decided to let him mature in his own time with a few to him being a good gorse for Auteuil in the future."
