Tuesday 19th January 2010, Pau. (www.leblogdeparisturf.com)  After three second places, Charmingo deserved to open his record in the €38,000 Prix Joseph de Gontaut-Biron Hurdle (4yo Males-3,500m). Sébastien Zuliani, back in the saddle in record time after suffering a fractured collarbone, was suitably impressed by the performance of the son of Charming Groom and Aconcagua: “He felt so well that I let him take the lead early on, maybe a little too early. He is a 4 year old to note for the future but there are better than him in the Leenders’ stable, a very talented half-bred who will debut on Sunday.”

Etienne Pollet – Fourteenth Spanish trained winner of meeting

Trained by Spanish trainer Ramon Avial Lopez, Fauchizo (Kingsalsa) won the €20,000 Prix Etienne Pollet (3yos-1,500 Fibresand). Jockey David Michaux, who divides his time between the Spanish racecourses of Saint-Paul-lès-Dax, San Sebastian and Madrid, explained: “He seems to be better on the sand.” Later in the afternoon, Atilano brought the Spanish score to fifteen.

Pic du Midi – “Quinte” success for Boigontiers

It was an emotional scene for the Boisgontier family after the success of Royal Bonnet in the €50,000 Prix Pic du Midi, Handicap Hurdle (5yo+ -3,500m). Jockey Nathalie Desoutter, out of breath but delighted, admitted: “Royal Bonnet gave so much energy in running that I had thought about pulling him up at one stage! He really is a force of nature!” Philippe Boisgontier, mentioned how the son of Bonnet Rouge is; “a brother of the talented Don Preuil and Zaniro that I trained. He has a tendency to become stressed one he arrives at the racecourse and he needs somebody with him all the time. Today, that person was me!
