Sunday 17th January 2010, Pau. (www.leblogdeparisturf.com) Alarm Call (Solar One) asserted his authority once more in the 55,000€ Prix Albert de Taillac. Hurdle (5yo+ - 3,800m). He has now been made favourite ahead of the Grande Course de Haies.
Despite the excellent defense put up by the young Bambi du Rheu (Sunshack), only Alarm Call and Pistol Jack (Maille Pistol) featured in the final stages. When asked what was his secret to get the 10 year old Alarm Call to win once again, Jacques Ortet replied jokingly, “It’s because we do good work!”  Jockey Christophe Pieux added, "Alarm Call never wins by a wide margin. He has a tendency to do the minimum but I did think the he was moving better today than the last day.” If he stays in this form until the 5th February, he will no doubt be hard to beat in the Grande Course de Haies.

John Henri Wright – Malberaux looks promising prospect

David Cottin and Malberaux (Michel Georges) returned to the winner’s enclosure to applause after the favourite won the €38,000 John Henri Wright (Cross Country-6yo+ - 5,000 m). The pair obliterated all their rivals in the finish, a fact which the 2009 champion jump jockey confirmed afterwards, Malberaux won one of the easiest victories of his career. I just tried not to take any unnecessary risks.” In three weeks, without any incidents in the mean time, Malberaux will meet once more the two representatives of Philippe Peltier, Thou in Gold and Notez Le, who are also two cross country specialists here at Pau.

Bigorre – Line Salsa continues to improve

What would have happened if Bretaye, who had already made two mistakes during the race, had not unseated Bertrand Thélier at the last hurdle in the €38,000 Prix de La Bigorre Hurdle (4yo Females-3500m)? That we will never know but Philippe Peltier, trainer of the talented winner, Line Salsa, said for his part: “She is pure class, far and away my best 3 year old, I can even say that she is better than the males. I won’t be surprised to see her feature in the Group races at Auteuil. Derrière Line Salsa (Kingsalsa ex. a daughter of Cadoudal, placed in the Maurice Gillois and winner of the Duc d'Anjou), Gratia Plena, promising sister of the good Deus Ex Machina who runs here on Tuesday, and La Politesse also profited from the misfortune of Bretaye.
