Thursday 7th January 2010, Pau (www.leblogdeparisturf.com). The €26,000 Prix de La Bastide (6yo+ - Cross Country – 4,600m) gave us the chance to see Kendo du Montceau (Vidéo Rock), who ran well on his first run back in early December. However the representative of Philippe Peltier did not seem to be back to top form yet and had to be content with third place. The other favourite (also 12 years of age), Kivala de Kerser (Lost World) was unlucky, brought down by a loose horse.

It was Achango (Le Triton), until now a bit disappointing at Pau, who made a strong effort in the final stages to obtain the third success of his career. Achango’s trainer, Pierrick Le Geay, was delighted with the win: “After two slightly disappointing runs, he finally proved our hopes justified. His objective is still the Grand Cross de Mont-de-Marsan, but the one here at Pau is also a possibility. How he recovers from this race will dictate our next steps.”

A very honest filly on the flat, Saphira Mans (AQ - Fragrant Mix) still had to wait until her tenth start in this discipline to find success. This was on the Fibresand of Pau on the 12th of December. Thursday in the €30,000 Prix d'Oloron Hurdle (AQPS-4yo Females-3,500m), she made a winning debut over hurdles.

Her trainer, Jean-Luc Pelletan, said afterwards: “On the flat, even though she won, she never showed her full ability. Here she could breathe and has outclassed the rest. She can run without any problems against thoroughbreds.” You have been warned.

With 27 races under his belt, Blue Sax (Pistolet Bleu) was the most experienced after Grandemaison (Assessor) at the start of the €32,000 Prix El Triunfo Hurdle (6yo+ - 4,600). Including his victory in this race he has now won 3 out if his 4 wins here at Pau.

The jockey of Blue Sax, Raphaël Delozier, commented: “He wasn’t ready the last time. With him, the longer the trip and heavier the ground, the better he performs. I was counting on him for this winter and I think he could take his chance against good horses in the Grand Prix.”
