Wednesday 6th January 2010, Cagnes-sur-Mer (www.leblogdeparisturf.com). The 6 year old, Le Jonchet (Northern Crystal), won the €32,000 Prix Michel Linares Chase (6yos+ 4,200m) in easy fashion, with the Cravache d'Or 2009 (French Champion Jump Jockey) David Cottin in the saddle.

The winner galloped on the heels of the leaders before Mme Lasgorceix’s gelding took the lead after the double fence and went on easily. David Cottin confided: “My instructions were to switch him off, otherwise he does too much. I was therefore patient and Le Jonchet was relaxed. When he is like that he finishes his races well and stays brilliantly."

Second and third with Imperial Secret (Imperial Ballet) and Bel Empereur (Emperor Jones), Yannick Fouin reported: "After a big mistake at the oxer, Imperial Secret ran well. Bel Empereur would have run better on firmer ground." Audrey Voraz’s 8 year old Ouyang (Akhdari), led for a long time before finally taking fourth place. This horse with fragile legs finally finished a race after a long absence.

Le Jonchet was bred by Ecurie Maulepaire (click for pedigree) and was purchased for €14,000 as a yearling. He is still entered in Sunday’s Grande Course de Haies and in the Prix Romantisme. Jean-Paul Gallorini will decide if he will run on Thursday morning.

Iles de Porquerolles – Pyla returns to form

Since arriving on the Côte d'Azur, Pyla (AQPS-Subotica, out of a daughter of Vidéo Rock) ran well in a strong Prix Katko, before being pulled up twice. Ridden by Phillip Carberry, Jean-Paul Sénéchal’s 7 year old was successful in the €30,000 Prix des Iles de Porquerolles Hurdle (5yos+ 3,900m) getting the best of the favourite, the grey Royal Honor (Highest Honor), on the flat. François Cottin confided: “This half bred by Subotica won the Karcimont at Auteuil, when we didn’t think he was ready yet. He is talented but irregular. But as most of the media like to repeat, all my horses are very irregular!"

Stodoun – Vicbilh regains confidence over hurdles

Gilles Veissière’s 4 year old Vicbilh (Loup Solitaire) won the €30,000 Prix Stodoun Hurdle (4yo Males - 3,500m) on a very sticky track. Ridden close to the leaders, the son of Loup Solitaire made the difference between the last two hurdles. The very regular Cheops du Berlais, another son of Loup Solitaire, finished second at the expense of Général d'Anjou (Kapgarde).

Bought from a claimer, Vicbilh came here after a fall over fences, when he was the only one capable of following Bahia do Brazil. On his return to hurdling, he pleased Jean-Paul Gallorini, who has not had the most satisfactory meeting due to quite a few injured horses.
