Despite having a bad draw – number 14 of 17 runners – Celenza (Dansili) managed to open her record on her third start in the €15,000 Prix du Val Marin (2yo Fillies maiden – 1400m). Alain de Royer Dupré’s charge was very patient early on and made the most of the strong pace set by Fanny des Hardys (Fasliyev). The Aga Khan’s representative was ridden by stable jockey Christophe Lemaire and made up ground easily on the last bend to pass all her rivals in the straight. The soft ground did not seem a problem to her on her way to a length and a half victory from Faussement Simple (Beat Hollow) back in second place. Fanny des Hardys finished a further three quarters of a length back in third.
Bred by the Aga Khan Studs, Celenza is the first foal out of Célèbre Vadala (Peintre Célèbre), who won the Prix Astronomie on her first start when beating Ponte Tresa (Sicyos), winner of the Prix Kergorlay (Gr2) and third in the Prix Royal-Oak (Gr1).
