Wednesday 6th October 2010, Enghien (www.jourdegalop.com) In winning the €100,000 Prix de la Gascogne Chase (L – 5yos+ - 3800m) Pibrac (Spadoun) announced himself as a serious candidate for the Grand Steeple-Chase (Gr2) run here at Enghien on October 23rd. “He has adapted well to this track and I think that he is a very good horse”, explained winning trainer François-Marie Cottin “He should now go for the "Grand Steeple". The ground was heavy today which he seemed to handle well.”
Second in this Prix de la Gascogne, Or Noir de Somoza (Discover d’Auteuil) is coming back to his best and should be on top for October 23rd. He finished 6 lengths behind the winner and a further 6 lengths ahead of Pistol Jack (Maille Pistol).

With only six horses at the start of this €85,000 Prix Dominique Sartini Hurdle(4yos – 3600m), it was the Guy Cherel trained Sortie de Secours (Trempolino) who found her way back to success, a path which she had lost since last June. The winner held off strong challenges from eventual second Celtill (Celtic Swing), an Enghien specialist, with Goanag de Kerbarh (Poplar Bluff) a further ?? back in third place.
Bred at Haras de Saint Voir, Sortie de Secours is the sixth of seven registered produce out of Briffaul (Olmeto), who was unraced. Five of these offspring have already won including Hard
Rock (Video Rock), who was successful in the Prix Edmond Barrachin (Gr3) for Guy Cherel. In 2008 Briffault produced a full brother to Sortie de Secours.

From the eight runners who took part in the €50,000 Prix Louis Champion Chase (4&5yo AQPS mares – 3800m) two were making their chasing debuts, the favourite Rhumerie (Shaanmer) and Saturne Collonges (Dom Alco). It was the latter who had the last say while the former seemed to be constantly caught for speed and was eventually pulled up on the far side. Saturne Collonges jumped faultlessly despite her lack of experience and being quite keen early on. Réflexion (Discover d’Auteuil) was on the heels of the winner throughout the race but couldn’t accelerate in the straight to pose a threat and eventually finished in third place. Rose de Grugy (Alamo Bay) took second place 3 lengths behind the winner.
Saturne Collonges was bred by the Delorme brothers in Saône-et-Loire. She is out of Castille Collonges (El Badr) who is the dam of Neptune Collonges (Dom Alco), the full brother to
Saturne Collonges. Neptune Collonges started his career in France with Jacques Ortet for whom he won the Prix Antoine de Palaminy (L) and the Prix Fleuret (Gr3) among many other races. He then moved to England where he was trained by Paul Nicholls to win three Group 1s over fences and finish third in the Cheltenham Gold Cup (Gr1).
