Sunday 3rd October 2010 Longchamp (www.jourdegalop.com) Workforce (King’s Best) acquired a first €4,000,000 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Gr1 - 3yo+ - 2400m) for trainer Sir Michael Stoute and jockey Ryan Moore. He came home a head in front of the phenomenal Japanese raider Nakayama Festa (Stay Gold) who came with a late run at the end.  

Workforce and Nakayama Festa finished detached from the rest of the field: two and a half lengths ahead of the filly Sarafina (Refuse to Bend) followed by Behkabad (Cape Cross) another two lengths behind and another five lengths back to Fame and Glory (Montjeu).

However shortly after the horses passed the post the siren rang out around the racecourse to announce a steward’s enquiry. In the end it was Planteur (Danehill Dancer) who was demoted from seventh place with his jockey Anthony Crastus suspended for two days. Jockey of Duncan, William Buick was also suspended for two days for having interfered with Lope de Vega.

Olivier Peslier was at his very best tactically when successful with the champion Goldikova (Anabaa) in the €250,000 Prix de la Forêt (Gr1 – 3yos+ - 1400m) in what will remain the most thrilling race of the weekend. Thankfully for us the Wertheimer brothers believe in leaving some of their older horses in training; “As long as horses are well it is a good thing to leave them in training after their 3 year old career. It lets the public get to know them.”

Prix de la Forêt success, Goldikova has now eleven Group 1 successes to her name. She will now return to the USA in an attempt to win a record third Breeders’ Cup Mile (Gr1).

Richard Hannon’s two representative’s Paco Boy (Desert Style) and Dick Turpin (Arakan) did not disgrace themselved when taking second and third places respectively. Paco Boy finished half a length behind Goldikova on what was his third time to be beaten by the mare but he will aim to get his revenge on her at Churchill Downs on what will be his last start according to connections.
