Saturday 2nd October 2010 Longchamp (www.jourdegalop.com) The longer trip was the key to Celtic Celeb’s (Peintre Célèbre) success admitted trainer François Doumen after his charge’s victory in the €130,000 Prix Chaudenay (Gr2 - 3yos - 3000m). Over shorter distances the pace has seemed too fast for this colt and he appeared to be in his element over this trip. According to his trainer he may now be aimed at either the Prix Royal-Oak (Gr1) or the Prix du Conseil de Paris (Gr2 - 3yos – 3000m). Celtic Celeb took the lead three hundred metres from the line and fought off attacks from Alain de Royer Dupré’s two runners Ivory Land (Lando) and Le Larron (High Chaparral), who finished second and third respectively.
Bred by Horse Breeding Corporation, Celtic Celeb is a son of Gaelic Bird (Gay Mécène). She was also trained by François Doumen and is the reason why the trainer purchased Celtic Celeb for €85,000 at the Arqana August Yearling Sale. Her best produce was Gaelic Queen (Fairy King), winner of a Listed in Ireland.
The brilliant winner of the Prix Madame Jean Couturié (L) at Vichy on soft ground, Maria Royal (Montjeu) came back with a win in the €130,000 Prix de Royallieu (Gr2 - 3yo+ Females – 2500m). The recent heavy rain was a big advantage for Alain de Royer Dupré representative and she sprung a surprise at 30/1 to easily get the better of her rivals. She may now go for the Prix Royal-Oak (Gr1) if the ground comes up in her favour.
High Heeled (High Chaparral) looked to be back to her best after a disappointing performance in the Prix Vermeille (Gr1) on good ground, she fought bravely but finished second beaten a neck. Third placed before the steward’s enquiry La Boum (Monsun) was demoted to fifth place for having interfered with Peinture Rare (Sadler’s Wells), who therefore was moved up into fourth place.
Out of Notable (Zafonic), an unraced mare belonging to Juddmonte Farms, Maria Royal was purchased for €50,000 at the Arqana August Yearling Sales by Jean-Pierre Deroubaix.
Cirrus des Aigles (Even Top) won the second Group 2 of his career when successful in the €130,000 Prix Dollar (Gr2 – 3yos+ - 1950m). Corine Barande-Barbe’s charge was very impressive and left no doubt as to his ability on the track here at Longchamp when going clear of the rest of the field. He will now head for the Prix du Conseil de Paris before a return visit to Asia this winter.
The German raider Budai (Dai Jin) was two lengths behind the winner in second place with Tom Tate’s Distant Memories (Falbrav) a further head behind in third.
Royal Bench (Whipper) ran away with the €130,000 Prix Daniel Wildenstein (Gr2) when winning by a clear three lengths. Having been held up by Olivier Peslier he passed horses with ease once asked for an effort. This a horse who looks to have much more to give as he matures with age as even trainer Robert Collet was keen to point out that his charge has not yet shown his true talent.
Lochinver (Kingmambo) took second place a length and a half ahead of Godolphin’s Emerald Commander (Pivotal).
Bred by his owner at Kilfrush Stud, Royal Bench is out of Hit the Sky (Cozzene) who was unraced but who produced a winner in her first foal Rain of Melody (Night Shift), a two time winner.
