Wednesday 22nd September 2010, Compiegne (www.jourdegalop.com) Although Oppenort (Aussie Rules) made a winning debut in the €20,000 Prix de Varanval (Unraced 2yos-1800m) over 1800 metres he showed that he has a lot of natural speed, despite the fact that his dam, Odessa (Sadler’s Wells), finished her career running over 3,100m. Oppenort beat the favourite Pine Creek (Doyen) by a comfortable 2 lengths with the filly Salorina (A.P. Indy) finishing strongly to take third place a further 3 lengths back.
This is the fifth foal out of Odessa, who was placed three times, including twice in Listed company, on her six career starts. She has previously produced one other winner, Onega Lake (Peintre Celebre), who was also trained by Elie Lellouche. This year Odessa foaled a colt by Falco.
