Saturday 21st August 2010, Deauville (www.jourdegalop.com) “We have no choice now: we will have to run in the Prix Marcel Boussac.” In winning the €80,000 Prix du Calvados-Haras des Capucines (Gr3-2yo Fillies-1,400m), Mambia (Aldebaran) earned her ticket for the Prix Marcel Boussac (Gr1), according to trainer Joël Boisnard after the race. This win was the second Group success of the trainer’s career and his first with a 2 year old. Winner of the Prix des Jouvenceaux et des Jouvencelles (L), Mambia made her debut in late Spring and went on to three straight successes. She seems to be constantly improving and should still have more room to progress. “I thought we had a good chance in this race, that is why we ran her today”, explained Joël Boisnard. “She is a very tough filly with an incredible temperament. She improves with every race.”
Miss Fifty (Whipper) produced the best performance of her career to finish second in this Group 3, a length and a half behind the winner. The Mick Channon owned and trained Fork Handles (Doyen) held on to third place a further length and a half behind.
The dam of Mambia, Algoa (Common Grounds) won twice and finished placed 7 times as a 3 year old when trained by Henri-Alex Pantall. Algoa is a half sister to Incanto Dream (Galileo), winner of the Prix Maurice de Nieuil (Gr2) and second in the Prix du Cadran (Gr1), when he was beaten a head by Bannaby (Dyhim Diamond) in 2008. Mambia was bought back as a yearling for €35,000 (click here for catalogue page).
Criterium du Fonds Europeen de l’Elevage – Difficult job for stewards to decide result
The result of the €122,000 Critérium du Fonds Européen de l'Elevage (L-2yos-1,600m) was eventually decided in the stewards’ room after Gérald Mossé, third with Temps au Temps (Invincible Spirit), lodged an objection against Danedream (Lomitas), the winner, and Klammer (Exceed And Excel), second placed.
Klammer, on the rail, spooked at something 20 metres from the line and in doing so frightened Danedream but never touched him. However, Danedream seriously interfered with Temps au Temps who was stopped in his tracks just before the line. Due to Klammer never having touched another horse the steward’s did not demote him. Danedream however was demoted from first to third placed leaving Klammer the eventual winner for trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam.
Ommeel – Immortal Verse lives up to promise
Among the horses having their first starts in the €34,000 Prix d’Omméel (2yos-1,300m), Immortal Verse (Pivotal) was the one who stood out on her pedigree alone. Bred in the purple, Robert Collet’s charge proved that she also had class and talent to boot when winning by one and a half lengths, despite being a little green, and in doing so beat horses with more experience than her.“I was impatient for her to have her first start (Immortal Verse should have had her first run in the Prix de la Motte Sassy the previous weekend but the race was transferred to the fibresand and her trainer preferred not to participate) and I preferred to supplement her for this race today”, declared Robert Collet. “She is talented and I am happy to have a filly like her in the yard.”
Action Chope (Muhaymin) took second place with race favourite One Thousand, who appeared very tense throughout the race and couldn’t react when challenged in the finish, eventually finishing a further two and a half lengths back in third.
Bred by Kilfrush Stud Farm, Immortal Verse is a niece of Last Tycoon (Try My Best), winner of the Breeders’ Cup Mile (Gr1), the Nunthorpe Stakes (Gr1), the King’s Stand Stakes (Gr1) and three Group 3s in France. She is also the niece of Zelda (Caerleon) who produced Group horses such as Nipping (Night Shift), Zipping (Zafonic) and Zelding (Warning). Immortal Verse is out of Side of Paradise (Sadler’s Wells), winner of the Prix La Camargo (L) as well as being Group 3 placed four times. At stud she has also produced Go Lovely Rose (Pivotal), second in the Prix des Marettes. Immortal Verse was bought back for €460,000 at the Arqana Yearling Sales in August 2009 (click here for catalogue page).
