Wednesday 18th August 2010, Deauville (www.jourdegalop.com) Chinese Wall (Aussie Rules) erased all memories of her disappointing performance at Vichy when winning the € Prix de la Vallée d’Auge (L-2yos-1000m) at Deauville. “She did it very well. I am very pleased with her performance”, confided trainer Didier Guillemin. “It was perhaps not the strongest Listed field for Deauville, but she won in style, and had a lot left in the tank. On her last start at Vichy she had had too long a break and was too fresh. I will now enter her in the Prix d’Arenberg (Gr3).” Held up behind the leading group, Chinese Wall made her move 400 metres from the line and produced a remarkable turn of foot to leave her rivals in her wake. At the line she was 3 lengths ahead of her nearest rival Boccalino (Iron Mask), who may now also head for the Prix d’Arenberg (Gr3). Paul Evans brought over two of his charges for this race and Dingle View (Mujadil) finished the better of the two, a further nose behind in third. On her first start at Maisons-Laffitte, Chinese Wall won the Prix Épinard (F) beating Broox (Xaar), who went on to finish second in the Prix Robert Papin (Gr2). The third placed horse on that opccasion, Maiguri (Panis), went on to win the Prix Roland de Chambure (L), while fourth placed Miss Liberty (Statue of Liberty) followed up with a win in the Prix la Flèche (L).
Concealing (Dansili) was the favourite ahead of the race but she was unlucky in running and couldn’t seem to find a gap at the crucial moment. When one finally opened up in the last 150 metres of the race she finshed very strongly to take fourth place.
Bred by the Marquise de Moratalla, Chinese Wall is the first offspring out of Ganar el Cielo (Ashkalani), who was also trained by Didier Guillemin. This mare won on her first start at Toulouse as a 3 year old. Her second product, Skadar Lake, is a yearling by Footstepsinthesand (Giant’s Causeway).
Vire – Fred Lalloupet doesn’t disappoint
Fred Lalloupet (Elusive City) lived up to his role as the favourite in the € Prix de Vire (3yos-1100m) when winning by a neck. The six runners went extremely fast on soft ground and the finish came down to just three horses. Fred Lalloupet held off the strong finish of Late Romance (Storm Cat), who took second place a short neck ahead of Chantilly Rock (Rock of Gibraltar). “I had a good run on the heels of the leaders”, confided Christophe Soumillon. “I then pulled out 500 metres from the line and he accelerated easily. He was brave to hold on right to the line as we made our move quite early. He should stay 1400m.” Fred Lalloupet should now be aimed for the Prix du Petit Couvert (Gr3).
Bred by Maurice Lagasse, Fred Lalloupet, is out of Firm Friend (Affirmed), who ran over distances from 1200 to 2.000m, most notably finishing third in the Prix de la Porte Maillot (Gr3) notamment. She has also bred Mon Pote le Gitan (Thunder Gulch), who took third place in the Prix de Cabourg (Gr3) as a 2 year old before winning the Prix Servanne (L) at Chantilly.
