Friday 30th July 2010, Deauville. (www.jourdegalop.com) Américain (Dynaformer) had already made an eye catching reappearance on July 8th at Clairefontaine, but on Friday at Deauville he was even more impressive when winning the €52,000 Prix du Carrousel (4yos+ -3,000m). Despite not having the best run the former Group 2 winner encountered no competition in the final stage of the race. “He is a magnificent horse”, analysed Alain de Royer Dupré, the winning trainer. “He is very easy to handle and despite not having a great run he won easily. He will probably go for the Prix Kergorlay (Gr2) at the end of the meeting. But that will depend on whether or not the ground comes up heavy.” Américain has also been mentioned as a possibility for the Melbourne Cup (Gr1). Le Tournesol (Samum) finished 3 lengths behind the winner with Sybelio (Lord of Men) a head behind in third place.

The dam of Americain, America (Arazi), won the Prix Vanteaux (Gr3) and the Prix de Malleret (Gr2) over 2,400m. A brother of Américain, Spycrawler (Red Ransom) had shown a lot of promise in training before unfortunately being fatally injured.

Mezeray – Nitza overcomes challenges

Nitza (Indygo Shiner), placed fourth in the Prix Yacowlef (L), was the one to watch ahead of the €34,000 Prix du Mezeray (2yo Fillies-1,500m Fibresand). She did not disappoint despite success not coming as easily as expected. “It is a miracle” announced Criquette Head-Maarek after the race. “Just after the start, I saw that something was not right. In fact the saddle had slipped right back on her. It is amazing as it has never moved on her in the mornings. I think she was above the rest and is a very brave filly. She has a lot of ability and will be better over 1,600m. She might run in the Criterium du Fond Européen de l’Elevage (L).”

Despite this incident that could have cost her the race, Nitza went on to win by one length from Tara Reel (Country Reel) with Hail Holy Queen (Highest Honor) a further short neck behind in third.

Nitza has the honour of being the only product and therefore the only winner by the American stallion Indygo Shiner, a son of A.P. Indy, in training in France. Valse Béré, by Hold That Tiger, a sister of Nitza, will pass through the ring at the August Yearling Sales (lot 443). Nitza herself was purchased by her trainer for €55,000 as a yearling in August 2009 (click here for catalogue page), when named Ulvina Bere.

Etreham – Nashi wins for new connections

Won last year by Behkabad (Cape Cross), the €34,000 Prix d’Etreham (2yo Males-1,500m Fibresand) provided the occasion for Nashi (Agnès Kamikaze) to open his record on his fourth start. Eoghan O’Neill’s charge fought off the challenge of the English challenger Hung Parliament (Numerous), to win by a short neck. “I bought him at the sales in Saint-Cloud on June 30th”, confided Eoghan O’Neill after the race, “this is therefore his first start for me. I am not surprised as he works well in the mornings. Nashi handles the fibresand well and should stay 1,600m; therefore he should now head for the Criterium du Fond Européen de l’Elevage (L).

After two second places, Nashi was disappointing when finishing 6th on June 30th at Maisons-Laffitte. This explains how Eoghan O’Neill was capable of purchasing for only €33,000 the evening of the race (click here for catalogue page).

Cote de Grace – Kermiyan impresses

The favourite in the €34,000 Prix de la Côte de Grâce (3yos-1,200m), Kermiyan (Green Desert) made a good impression when winning by a length from Fred Lalloupet (Elusive City).

“I prefer to see my horses held up a bit like that” said Jean-Claude Rouget. “On his last start (over 1,400m) he was in front and the last metres were a little long. I think that he is a true 1,200m horse.” Kermiyan might make reappearance in the Prix de Meautry (Gr3 - 1.200m) at the end of the meeting. Kaiss (Seeking the Gold) took third place a further short neck behind.

Bred by the Aga Khan, Kermiyan is the first offspring out of Kerasha (Daylami) who won once and was placed three times from four starts. She has also produced Keratiya (Iron Mask), a recent winner of the Prix du Bois (Gr3), who is also trained by Jean-Claude Rouget.
