Monday 19th July 2010, Vichy (www.jourdegalop.com) Honneur Suprême (Baroud d’Honneur) beat his nine rivals to win the €27,000 Prix Ombrette (2yo Fillies-1,400m). Yann Barberot’s charge hadn’t won since his first start in the Prix de la Marche, a claimer which was one of the first 2 year old race of the year. On that day he was defended by his owners for €53,333. Slowly away Honneur Suprême was held up patiently, unlike on other performances, and accelerated impressively in the straight to pass the post four lengths in front. “She did it very easily”, confided Maxime Foulon. “Yann Barberot told me to be patient with her as she can be very keen. I took a pull from the start and that is why she was slowly away. She was relaxed in behind and could use her turn of foot in the finish.”
The favourite, Rue des Iris (Muhtathir), took second place after managing to fight off all attacks except for that of that of the winner. A short neck behind in third place was Irish Chope (Indian Rocket).
Bred in Calvados by Écurie Atropas, Honneur Suprême is a daughter of Un Petit Tour (Double Bed), a mare who never figured in the finish of her three starts.
Cusset – Retribution for Ocean Dore
“Unfortunately Océan Doré (Kingsalsa) put his foot in a hole after the line and came back a little lame”, declared Thierry Larrivière, trainer of the winner of the €27,000 Prix de Cusset (2yo Males-1,400m). On his last run Océan Doré was disqualified after winning and placed fourth. Without that incident he would have achieved his third career success on Monday as he was victorious on his first start at Lyon-Parilly. “He has a real turn of foot” continued his trainer, “He had already shown that on his last start, but was disqualified for nothing. We had planned to run him in the Prix des Jouvenceaux et des Jouvencelles (L), but that is complicated by that fact that he is now lame.”
King David (Iffraaj) was a length behind in second place with Garlin Blues (Anabaa Blue) a further three quarters of a length back in third place.
Bred by Chantal Becq, Océan Doré is a son of Ralpha (Septième Ciel), who showed quality as a 2 year old when trained by Jacques Rossi by winning three times in a row and finishing 6th in the Prix du Bois (Gr3).
