Sunday 18th July 2010, Vichy. (www.jourdegalop.com) Brigantin (Cozzene) achieved his second consecutive success in the €55,000 Prix Frédéric de Lagrange (L-3yos-2,400m), after his victory in the Swiss Derby in late June. That race is only classed as a Listed race at local level, not by International standards, this win permitted him to finally achieve a true Listed victory and an easy one at that. “I didn’t need to hit him at all and he won very easily” said Maxime Guyon, his jockey. “He is a good horse who won easily in the Swiss Derby.” Elisabeth Fabre’s charge has only once been out of the first two in five Listed starts. On Sunday he finished a length ahead of Royal Ménantie (Kendor), while his stable companion Royal Bengali (Tiger Hill) was a further three quarters of a length behind in third place.
Bred in partnership by Team Valor, Mme Elisabeth Fabre and Denali Stud & Partners, Brigantin is a son of Banyu Dewi (Poliglote). Trained by Mario Hofer, Banyu Dewi won a Listed in Baden-Baden before finishing fourth in the Critérium de Saint-Cloud (Gr1). Brigantin is also the nephew of Banyumanik (Perugino), triple Gr3 winner and five times placed in Gr2s, before retiring to stud.
Malavaux – Tous Ensemble pulls it together

Tous Ensemble (Epalo), bred by the Haras de Saint-Voir, did not mess up on his debut in competition when winning the €18,000 Prix des Malavaux (3yo AQPS horses – 2,000m). “I told his jockey not to use the whip”, confided Nicolas de Lageneste, his breeder. “He only went into training a few weeks ago and has not had a lot of work, but he has showed quality in the mornings. We are pleased as he is one of the first crop of Epalo, a stallion who stands at our stud. Tous Ensemble should now head for the Critérium du Centre, back here on the 15th August over 2,400m.”
Three quarters of a length behind in third place was Terreur (Raintrap), with Taoiri (Khalkevi) a further 2 lengths behind in third place, both of which had already run.
