Friday 16th July 2010, Chantilly. (www.jourdegalop.com) Prairie Star (Peintre Célèbre) made a positive start to his career when winning the €24,000 Prix du Soleil de Bretagne (Unraced 2 year old Males-1,200m). Although he comes from a family of late starters and stayers he won on his first start over 1,200m showing a certain amount of precocity. “He is a horse that pleased me in the mornings”, said Anthony Crastus when speaking to Equidia. “He is precocious but is not a sprinter. Today he won thanks to his quality but he will stay further.”
Four lengths behind the winner Trebetherick (Verglas) took second place though appeared very green. A further five lengths behind in third place was Carlos Laffon Parias’s Trévières (Gold Away).
Bred by Dayton Investments, Prairie Star is out of Prairie Runner (Arazi), who also produced Prairie Flower (Zieten), who won on his first start in the autumn of his 2 year old career before finishing second in the Prix Michel Houyvet (L) à Deauville.
Verrerie – Living Art fulfils promise
Xavier Nakkachdji was very confident of the chance’s of Living Art (Trippi) ahead of the €24,000 Prix de la Verrerie (Unraced 2yo Fillies-1,200m), and rightly so as she went on to win by a head. She managed to fight off the challenge of Espirita (Iffraaj). Living Art sat patiently at the back of the field before passing her rivals easily in the straight. “She shows promise in the mornings”, confirmed Grégory Benoist. “I was therefore quite confident before the race. She is a serious filly with a lot of speed.” Footsteppy (Footstepsinthesand) finished a further length and a half behind in third place. Perennité (Vespone), Pascal Bary’s charge, attempted to take the exit off the track towards the parade ring resulting in her unseating her jockey Thierry Thulliez. He was taken to hospital where he is reported to be suffering from a fracture of his malleolus (the round bone on the outside of the ankle).
Bred by McKathan Bros, Living Art is out of V Sign (Robellino), an unraced American mare. Living Art is a half sister to V Formation (Proud Birdie), a double Listed winner in the USA over 1,700m and of My Silver Charm (Silver Charm), a Stakes winner over 1,200m.
