Wednesday 14th July 2010, Longchamp. (www.jourdegalop.com) “He is really extraordinary…” Élie Lellouche was clearly moved when talking about his charge Blek (Chichicastenango). On Wednesday his record came to four Listeds and two Group races: the Prix de Barbeville (Gr3) and now the €130,000 Prix de Maurice de Nieuil (Gr2 – 4yo+ -2,800m), his first Group 2. Who would have thought it after his modest debut in a claimer as a 3 year old? In winning at Longchamp on Wednesday he provided his jockey,Yohann Bourgois, with his first ever Group winner. Élie Lellouche added: “We were very pleased by the rain that fell today. We will now see about running him in a Gr1 but that will be in the Autumn. He should run in the Prix du Cadran (Gr1). I am very pleased both for the owner and the jockey, the latter of which works for me.” Yohann Bourgois commented; “He is a horse that I ride regularly in the mornings. But he is not the same in the afternoon as he can be quite lazy at home. I am very happy to win my first Group for my boss who had faith in me. He didn’t tell me ahead of time and I only realised when I saw the runners.”
Los Cristianos (Gold Away) seemed to have found his previous form when finishing a good second three lengths behind the winner. A further length behind in third was the German horse Titurel (Dr Fong)
Bred by his owner, Alain Maubert, Blek is out of Exande (Exit to Nowhere) who ran on the flat and over jumps for both David Smaga and Jean-Paul Gallorini.
