Sunday 11th July 2010, Maisons-Laffitte. (www.jourdegalop.com) Évaporation (Red Ransom) finally won a Listed race when successful in the €55,000 Prix Amandine (L-3yo Fillies-1,400m). Carlos Laffon-Parias’s charge sat handily behind the leaders before making accelerating suddenly and holding off all attacks right up to the line to win by only a neck. “She has always been beaten by good fillies”, confided the winning trainer, “She deserved to win a Listed race. I was only worried about the weight she was giving to the others. Unfortunately when you are placed in a Listed race you also get more kilos.”

The Wertheimer brother’s representative finished second in the Prix Volterra (L) at Saint-Cloud, behind Lily of the Valley (Galileo), then third in the Prix de Sandringham (Gr2) behind Joanna (High Chaparral). Evaporation should now return to Group company in the Prix de Lieurey (Gr3–12 August).

Devilish Lips (Königstiger) created something of a surprise in finishing second. Trained by Andreas Lowe, she beat Argumentative (Observatory) by half a length. Argumentative had only run on one prior occasion, back in October of last year, and had not been seen on the track since.

Evaporation is out of the Wertheimer mare Polygreen (Green Tune), who won a Listed before finishing fourth in the Prix d’Astarté (Gr2 at the time) for Freddy Head. Polygreen also has a 2 year old filly by Bering and this year was covered by Montjeu.

Tornado – Three from three for Tazmiyna

In winning the €34,000 Prix Tornado (3yos-2,800m), Tazmiyna (Alhaarth) achieved her third consecutive win from three starts. “She is a good filly, serious and honest”, declared trainer Alain de Royer Dupre. “We eased her off a bit at home due to some pain in her fetlock, but she ran very well today.” Tazmiyna can sometimes appear to be caught for speed as she is a very cold filly with a lot of staying power; once she is in her stride she never gives up and battles right to the line. She will now be aimed at Listed company against the colts.

André Fabre’s Waffy (Sinndar) showed a marked improvement from his last two runs to take second place half a length behind the winner with Croix Madame (Forestier) a further three quarters of a lengths behind in third place.

Bred by the Aga Khan Studs, Tazmiyna is a daughter of Tawasila (Turtle Island), winner of the Prix Charles Laffitte (L) at Longchamp. At stud she has produced five products of which Tazmiyna is the youngest.
