Wednesday 7th July 2010, Deauville. (www.jourdegalop.com) Khawatim (Intikhab) followed up his winning debut at Maisons-Laffitte in June with a win by 2 lengths in the €29,000 Prix du Vieux Pont (2yos-1,200m), at Deauville. Jean-Claude Rouget’s colt is well built with an impressive turn of foot and a laidback temperament making him a triple threat. “He is one of my best 2 year olds, along with Yarubo and Havane Smoker”, announced the trainer. “He should now go for the Prix de Cabourg (Gr3), we will see if he has the class to run in the Prix Morny (Gr1). Everyone dreams of training a horse like him.”

Second placed Gavriel (Tale of the Cat) made a marked improvement from his first start at Maisons-Laffitte just under 2 weeks ago. Mister Segway (Dansili) finished a further two and a half lengths behind in third place.

Bred by Baroness Bloodstock, Khawatim is out of the sprinter Don’t Tell Mum (Dansili), and was bought for €150,000 at the October Sales at Tattersalls in 2009 (click here for catalogue page). Don’t Tell Mum also has a yearling full brother to Khawatim.

Carrefour-Saint Jean – Boltcity bolts up

Boltcity (Elusive City) did not let victory pass him by when successful in the €37,000 Prix du Carrefour Saint-Jean (3yos-1,300m Fibresand). Boltcity is trained by Jean-Claude Rouget, who achieved a one two in this race thanks to the second place of Rue de la Victoire (Exceed and Excel) a length behind the winner. “Boltcity loves these flat right handed tracks”, explained the winning trainer. He will never again run on the straight. He is not top class but is capable of Listed level”.

A neck behind the Rouget pair in third place was Otou (Big Shuffle).

The dam of Boltcity, Combloux (Southern Halo), had a short lived racing career finishing third on the first of her six starts. At stud Boltcity is her second produce after Etty’s Diary (Enrique), who won her maiden. She also has a yearling colt by Kingsalsa (Kingmambo). Boltcity was purchased for €80,000 at the Arqana Yearling Sales, in August 2008, by his trainer Jean-Claude Rouget (click here for catalogue page).

Dives – Vertiformer on top form

Jean-Claude Rouget and Christophe Soumillon achieved a treble on the card thanks to the success of Vertiformer (Dynaformer) in the €34,000 Prix de Dives (3yos-1,900m fibresand). “The fibresand suits this horse perfectly”, continued the trainer. “He already impressed me a lot at Marseille. He is quite backward so we will wait and see where we go from here.” Vertiformer beat Scandola (Afleet Alex) into second place by two and a half lengths. The favourite Platinum (Azamour) was a further neck behind in third place.

Bred by his owner Joseph Allen, Vertiformer is the third produce out of Tempo West (Rahy), a three time winner in the States. She is also the dam of War Power (Pulpit), who also won on the fibresand of Deauville for Jean-Claude Rouget.
