Tuesday 6th July 2010, Clairefontaine. (www.jourdegalop.com) A battle between Jean-Claude Rouget’s Pretty Late (Panis) and Dust Bowl (Cadeaux Généreux) was expected in the €34,000 Prix des Triton (2yo Males-1,400m) but in the end it was Zack Yield (High Yield) who was successful. Antoine Lamotte d’Argy’s charge got up in the dying strides to beat Pretty Late by a short neck. “I was a bit caught for speed early on”, announced winning jockey Maxime Guyon. “He is a serious horse who still has room to improve.” Four lengths behind the first two home Afrikanos (Johannesburg) took third place.
Bred by Zakaria Hakam, Zack Yield was bought for €14,000 at the Arqana Mixed Sales in February 2010 at Saint-Cloud (click here for catalogue page). He is out of Zafarana (Shernazar), an Aga Khan mare, who won a Listed before selling for €24,000 at the breeding sales in 2004. Zack Yield is her fourth product, having produced only one other winner, Zania (Kahyasi).
Naiades – Top ride from Soumillon
The hot favourite Peace of Oasis (Oasis Dream) won the €34,000 Prix des Naïades (2yo Fillies-1,400m), thanks to a brilliant ride from Christophe Soumillon. Well placed on the heels of the leaders, the top jockey chose to come up the rail between horses when making his move. “I am very pleased, she is a filly on the rise who is still a little babyish”, announced the Belgian jockey.
Jean-Claude Rouget’s representative came here off an easy win at Marseille-Borély. She dominated Passei (Panis), the most experienced filly of the bunch, by three quarters of a length. Platine Rose (Green Tune) was a further three quarters of a length behind in third.
Bred by Écurie D, Peace of Oasis is the second offspring out of Peace Fonic (Zafonic), a winner as a 3 year old over 2,500m at Chantilly. Peace Fonic is a sister of the talented Peace Dream (Linamix), who finished fifth in the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (Gr1) won by Darjina (Zamindar), before finishing third in a Listed at Bordeaux.
Oeillets – No worries for Le Tranquille
Race favourite Le Tranquille (Reste Tranquille) did not let his supporters down when winning easily in the €32,000 Prix des Oeillets Hurdle (3yos-3,400m). François-Marie Cottin’s charge came here off an excellent fifth place on his first start in the Prix Wild Monarch (L). Running in the colours of Jean-Paul Sénéchal he was always among the leaders, and benefited from the fall Great Fouquet (Great Pretender) on the last bend, before winning by 3 lengths. Carmont Baby (Nuclear Freeze) took second place two lengths ahead of François-Marie Cottin’s other runner, Tedjala (Agent Bleu), who was having her first start.
Bred by Mme Rémi Cottin and Robert Collet, Le Tranquille is the first product of Kaer Gwell (Garde Royale). The latter is a sister Le Conquet (Nikos), a Listed winner at Evry.
