Sunday 27th June 2010, Saint Cloud (www.jourdegalop.com) Claude Cohen is a very happy man after seeing his red and yellow colours shine in the last 4 days in a Gr3 over jumps, with Soleil de Sivola (Discover d’Auteuil), and in a Gr2 at Saint-Cloud, thanks to Never Forget (Westerner) who dominated the €150,000 Abu Dhabi Prix de Malleret (Gr2-3yo Fillies-2,400m). “It has been a great week for me. I’m over the moon. Especially as this is a filly that I bred, just like her dam. I think she handled the trip well and hope that she will never run over any further than that.” In winning her first Group race, Never Forget also achieved a first Group success for her sire Westerner (Danehill). Winning trainer Élie Lellouche commented, “As I mentioned previously at Chantilly, I knew she would be better on a flatter track. She will now wait for the autumn, with the Prix Vermeille (Gr1) as her next objective as we don’t have many options.”
Never Forget benefited from a good run on the heels of Lady’s Purse (Doyen). She made her move early in the straight and quickly put distance between herself and her rivals, winning by three quarters of a length in the end. Shamanova (Danehill Dancer) made up enough ground to deprive Lady’s Purse of second place by a short neck, but without worrying the winner. As mentioned above, Never Forget was bred by her owners, Claude Cohen and Élie Lellouche She is a daughter of Topira (Pistolet Bleu), who won twice in Paris before finishing second in the Prix Petite Étoile and Belle de Nuit (Ls).
Sea Bird – Bigger and better things for Zack Hall
Zack Hall (Muhtathir) is a horse on the up and he proved that by winning the €57,000 Prix Sea Bird (3yos-2,400m) with more ease than the winning distance of three quarters of a length shows. Mikel Delzangles’ charge benefited from a perfect race. “His jockey gave him a good ride”, said his trainer. “It was a better class today than on his last race. He ran very well and will now have a break before stepping up in class again, probably starting off with a Listed.”
Once pulled out by Thierry Thulliez, Zack Hall made the difference with ease to beat Lancelot (Bahri), whose connections were far from disappointed with his performance. Waldhorn (Slickly) was the only horse to make up ground in the finish and took third place a further short head behind.
Zack Hall is owned by Mathieu Offenstadt and runs in the same colours as 2000 Guineas winner Makfi (Dubawi). He is out of Halawa (Dancing Brave), an Aga Khan mare who has also produced Afaf (Spectrum), winner of the Prix Fille de l’Air (Gr3) atToulouse, as well as Zack Dream (Dream Well), winner at Chantilly and placed second in the Prix du Lys (Gr3) behind Montmartre (Montjeu). Zack Hall was purchased for €56,000 in February 2010 at Saint Cloud (click here for catalogue page).
