Monday 22nd February 2010, Cagnes-sur-Mer. (www.leblogdeparisturf.com) “He had the race won in two strides”, announced Ioritz Mendizabal after Army Scout’s (Giant's Causeway) victory in the €32,000 Prix de la Principauté de Monaco (3yos-1,300m Fibresand). Having tailed Evading Tempete (Dubai Destination) for most of the race, Joseph Allen’s impressive colt left his rivals in his wake as soon as his jockey asked him for an effort. Army Scout hadn’t seen the track since his success at Deauville, on December 10th, and was running over 1,300 metres for the first time in his career. “He has enough speed to win over this trip”, added Ioritz Mendizabal. The son of Volga (E.P. Taylor Stakes, Gr1) will now be aimed at a Listed race, the logical next step would be the Prix Montenica, on March 18th, over 1,300 metres on the fibresand at Deauville. As Jean-Claude Rouget explained after the colt’s first win, it is important that the produce of Volga achieve black-type. This very good racemare has in fact not produced at the level expected of her until this colt. Her first two fillies achieved no success on the racecourse, but her fourth produce, a filly by Arch (Kris S), was sold for €50,000 at Arqana in Deauville last October (click here for catalogue page).

Golfe Juan – Enzio heads for German Group 3

Enzio (Next Desert) was successful in the €20,000 Prix de Golfe Juan (4yo-2,000m Fibresand) after never being challenged in the straight once he took the lead, despite the strong effort of Black Rose (Sagacity). “I think he is better when he comes from behind”, explained trainer Werner Baltromei, “but he didn’t have any other choice today. He should now run in a Gr3 in Hamburg in April.”

Black Rose was making up for a disappointing performance over 1,600 metres, when she didn’t breathe properly.Enzio, who ran very little in 2009, finished third in a Gr3 in Germany as a 2 year old.

Issambres – Family victory for Prod’hommes

Ridden by Pauline Prod'homme, and trained by her father, Didier, Chakacha (Victory Note) won easily in the €20,000 Prix des Issambres (4yo+ - 1,600m Fibresand), thanks to a cool ride from her young jockey. “Pauline rode her very well”, admitted Didier Prod'homme. “After a year without a claim (the rule when you change from being an amateur to a professional), she now benefits from a weight advantage. She will therefore ride in apprentice races for me now. As for Chakacha, she should run in a “quinté” on the 25th of March at Deauville, for 4 year old females.”
Chakacha was bought for €42,000 at the Arqana Sales in August 2007 (click here for catalogue page). Bred by the Foriens, Chakacha is out of a sister of Masalarian (Doyoun), Listed winner on the flat in France and Gr2 winner over jumps in England.
