Friday, Sept. 4th. Thierry Thulliez made the decision to make the long trip down to Lyon la Soie today instead of riding at his local track Chantilly. It was obviously the right decision to make as he won the opening race on the card, the €17,000 Prix Albert Swann (1800mPSF), for 3 year old maiden colts, on Super Kenny (Ire - Kendor) for Nicolas Clement.
He got up on the line to win by a length and a half from the Henri-Alex Pantall trained Staol (Fr - Spinning World) ridden by Gaetan Masure. The winning gelding has had three runs previously, all this year, finishing 2nd on his first time out over 1600m before finishing 4th and 2nd on two consecutive runs over 1500m on the Fibre sand at Deauville. Nicolas Clement bought this gelding at the Deauville October Yearling Sale for €77,000; he also trains the winner's 2 year old half sister Kalentona (Fr - Kalanisi). Thierry Thulliez followed up his win in the first race with a second when successful in the €17,000 Prix de l'Avenir (1800mPSF), another 2 year old maiden, with Porzapone (Fr - Vespone), a first winner for Vespone (Llandaff), who works at €3,000 (LF) at Antoinette Tamagni and Patrick Chedeville's the Haras du Petit Tellier. This colt is also trained in Chantilly by Nicolas Clement and, like Super Kenny, he also runs in the colours of Ecurie Mister Ess which were made famous by Stormy River. This was his fourth start, having previously finished 4th and 2nd over 1400m on turf followed by a 3rd place over 1500m on fibre sand at Deauville. Clement also purchased this colt for the owner when he paid €30,000 for him at the October Yearling Sale last year. The €14,000 Prix de Saint-Cyr les Vignes (1800mPSF), a maiden for two year olds, was won by the Raphael Marchelli ridden Source Antique (Fr - Diktat) for trainer Alain Lyon. This was another winner who just got up before the line, this time to win by half a length. The filly has already five runs under her belt on the turf over a variety of distances from 100m to 1400m, but she obviously found her trip today and seemed to also enjoy the fibre sand. She was bought for only €6,000 when consigned by Haras du Bois Carrouges at the Deauville October Yearling Sale. She is a half sister to two winners in the form of Source Bleue (Fr - Gold Away) and Lizard Dream (Fr - Agnes World).
