Dual Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Kauto Star's dam, 16yo Kaulto Relka (Port Étienne) was put down on Saturday morning at her breeder Henri Aubert's stud farm near Le Lion d'Angers. She injured her spine in her paddock and could not be treated, according to Mr. Aubert. "It has been a dream ride and it is a shame it ends like that but I have been very lucky with her. She gave me 13 foals in 14 seasons. She was barren once only because the sire she was supposed to visit got a problem." Kauto Relka, whose 9th foal Kauto Stone (With the Flow) won at Auteuil on Friday, is survived by two mares, 10yo Kauto Relstar (Art Bleu), given by Henri Aubert to his children, and 8yo Kauto Karolyna (Village Star), who's got a Priolo yearling at Henri Aubert's farm. Kauto Relka also had a Bonbon Rose 2yo filly, now in training with young trainer Donatien de Beauregard near Durtal, and a Byzantium filly foal. Her Priolo yearling is due to be offered for sale at Arqana Deauville October sale.
