ElusiveCityLast year's leading first-season sire Elusive City (Usa-Elusive Quality) is set to stand at Haras d'Etreham in Normandy in 2010 and become one of the most exciting new recruits to the French stallion ranks in recent times, it was stated Thursday morning in a press release.

The nine-year-old's stud career has stepped up another level this year, siring the Group 1 French 1,000 Guineas winner Elusive Wave and the Group 1 Irish 2,000 Guineas third Soul City with a string of exciting second-crop two-year-olds also representing him.

As a racehorse, Elusive City gained his biggest success at Deauville when winning the 2002 Group 1 Prix Morny in great style and he is set to fill a void for a top-class stallion in France, particularly noticeable following the recent death of Anabaa.

Elusive City has already enjoyed great success as a stallion in France. As well as her Classic victory this year, Elusive Wave is a dual Group 3 winner and finished runner-up in last season's Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac.
The Richard Hannon-trained Soul City, who also won last year's Goffs Million, had previously landed the Group 3 Prix La Rochette at Longchamp and scored in Listed company at Deauville.

His other flagbearers include Nashmiah, a dual Listed winner for Clive Brittain this season, while he is also responsible for the southern hemisphere Listed scorers Lamington Vegas and Metropolitan.

More updates are due this weekend as Elusive Wave will start on Sunday in the €250,000 Prix Rothschild (Gr1-1,600mT), Boltcity takes part in the €80,000 Prix de Cabourg Juvenile (Gr3-1,200mT) while the unraced 2yo filly Yamam was left in Saturday's €24,000 Prix de Lisieux (1,200mT), a highly rated beginners' race, by Andre Fabre, who had four juvenile filliues in the race...

Hubie de Burgh, spokesman for Elusive City's ownership syndicate, commented: "Three-quarters of the Elusive City northern hemisphere shares are owned by French breeders and these shareholders have decided to stand him in France where their breeding operations are based and where a large amount of Elusive City's success has been achieved.

"This decision is obviously a big disappointment to the Irish National Stud who have done an excellent job managing him since he left Huma Park Stud. All the shareholders thank the Irish National Stud and appreciate all the good work they have done."

Although he declined to further comment on the matter, Etreham's owner Marc de Chambure was probably instrumental in this transfer from Ireland to France of a highly-rated young sire, an event unthinkable before the credit crunch and the crisis in Ireland. Elusive City stood at €12,500 this season and will probably stand at a higher price in 2010 courtesy of the great results his first 3yos registered on track. According to Franck Champion, Etreham's commercial manager, Elusive City covered about 150 mares this year.
