A few days after securing the two best French 3yo hurdlers, Irish owner J P McManus bought the promising 4yo hurdler Rock Noir (Fr-Mansonnien), the only conqueror of French Triumph victor Rendons Grace (Fr-Video Rock) so far. Trained by Marcel Rolland for his breeder Jean-Francois Colas, Rock Noir ran only twice this season and was kept aside after defeating the generation leader. Marcel Rolland wanted to give him some time to mature as he can be a bit highly strung, just like Questarabad (Fr-Astarabad), also bred by Colas in the Cher, in the Center of the country.
Advised by Timmy Hyde and French bloostock agent Bertrand Le Metayer, McManus decided to let the horse in training with Rolland until the end of the season. The horse will be kept over hurdles. The owner used the same strategy with Sway and Temple Lord. Rolland already made some business with McManus as he sold him Le Coudray, eventiual Stayers'Hurdle second for the Irish owner when in training with Aidan O'Brien.
