Jourdegalop.com revealed in its Friday edition that Sway (Fr-Califet) and Temple Lord (Fr-Califet), the two best 3yo hurdlers of the French Spring, had been bought by Irish prominent NH owner J P McManus. Both are trained by Guy Cherel in Maisons-Laffitte and will remain under his responsibility until at least the end of the year. "We will see what happens after the Autumn," said Cherel to jourdegalop.com. "They are both well. Temple Lord is by the sea in my Normandy training center at saint-Martin-de-Brehal. Sway is out in the field."
McManus has had a few horses in training in France with Francois and Thierry Doumen, such as Punchestown Gold Cup winner First Gold, Maghull Novices'Chase winner Foreman, as well as dual World Hurdle winner Baracouda. Francois Doumen now trains two 5yo horses for JP, namely Doctor Pat (Ire-Definite Article) and Moneywise (Ire-Definite Article), a winner over hurdles at ontainebleau in February. Temple Lord was bred and owned by Ireland based syndicate ML Bloodstock. He has won three of his four starts over hurdles this term, including the two main Listed Auteuil events for young hurdlers. Sway, an AQPS filly, was bred and co-owned by Guy Cherel himself. She's unbeaten in five starts over the flat and over hurdles. She has won impressively the two female Listed 3yo hurdling events at Auteuil. Both will probably be prepared for the top European jumps contest in Europe, the €270,000 Prix Cambaceres 3yo Hurdle (Gr1-3,600m), run during the Auteuil International weekend early in November.
