French Derby winner Le Havre (Ire-Noverre) will not race again. The Jean-Claude Rouget trained colt was supposed to go for the Prix Jacques Le Marois (Gr1-1,600mT) but suffered a tendon and will enter stud soon "As can happen after an extreme effort, Le Havre came out of the Jockey Club with serious tendon problems which will change the direction of his career," said the trainer to the French press and the Racing Post. "There is no question now of running him in the Prix Jacques Le Marois. With his owner, Gerard Augustin-Normand, it will be decided where the horse will stand at stud but it is a little too early to mention any names."
Bred by Team Hogdala and Anna Sundstrom at the Haras de Coulonces in Normandy, Le Havre was bought by Rouget for €100,000 at the 2007 Deauville Arana yearling sale (click here for his catalogue page). Sporting the colours of Gerard Augustin-Normand (a native of Le Havre who named his colt after the Normand harbour), Le Havre finished second to Silver Frost in the French 2,000 Guineas but avenged himself in the Prix du Jockey Club for his first test beyond the mile.
Gerard Augustin-Normand still has plenty to look forward to as he recently purchased the Fabrice Chappet-trained 2yo Blue Panis (Fr-Panis), who defeated Darley's Forum Magnum and will clash again with the Andre Fabre-trained colt on Sunday in the €80,000 Prix du Bois (Gr3-1,000mT) at Chantilly.
