Sunday, 13 September 2009 17:44
Sunday, Sept. 13th. Previously unbeaten, the 3 year old Stacelita (Monsun) returned to the track today but was unable to get the better of her elder Dar Re Mi (Singspiel) in the last 100 metres of the Prix Vermeille (Gr1 - 2,400m). Soumillon on the mend PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 10 September 2009 11:10
Christophe Soumillon is recuperating after being operated on Wednesday evening for injuries he sustained in a horrific fall at Nancy. He was riding Burlada for Carlos Laffon Parias in a claiming race yesterday afternoon when the filly ducked out between two hedges, which are used to serve as a running rail. Soumillon was thrown back onto the track into the path of the oncoming horses. He lay prone on the track for over 45 minutes before being transported to the local hospital where he is reported to be suffering from a fracture to his left elbow, writes Sally Ann Grassick.
He was operated on the same evening and is expected to spend a few days in hospital in Nancy, where his wife Sophie has family. It is reported that he has had two pins inserted into his elbow as well as some wire to hold the injury in place. No confirmation has been made as of yet as to how long before we can expect to see him again on French racecourses. Speaking on Thursday morning his agent, Edith Dutertre reported him to be "in a small amount of pain but in good spirits".
Replacements have been put in place for his intended mounts, with Tom Queally taking the ride on Shemima (Dalakhani) Thursday at Doncaster and Christophe Lemaire picking up the ride on Beheshtam (Peintre Celebre) in the Prix Niel at Longchamp on Sunday.
